Review of John Dies at the End (2013) by Nick M — 11 Jul 2015
Ok, sure there some differences between the movie and book. David Wong said that it would have been a 5hr movie (it would have and should have), but that should not stop you from seeing this fine piece of cinema.
Don Coscarelli got the mood and tone perfect and the actors nailed their characters awesomely. The problem will be for people who did not read the book and will thusly be unable to fill in the blanks.
It's trippy, moves well, and tales new turns that Hollywood is too pussy to try anymore. I say bravo and kick ass. I know, if I liked it so damn much, why only 4 stars? I felt they could have gone with a full 2-2.
5 hours to really flush put some of the books finer points. Go see it. Now.
