Review of John Carter (2012) by R Treybian P — 09 Aug 2015
It was a "Independence Day" level of excitement type of movie- great special effects and lots of action (I've said this before). Here's the only prob. Taylor Kitsch's acting is everything that people used to say Keanu Reeves' acting of being.
.. (Wait, I've said that before too). Ok, I cannot suspend my brain enough to buy that there's was suppose to be life, on Mars, during the Civil-fucking War! The said there was no water, and the next scene there was a damn super-sized lake.
Was he dreaming this? Interplanetary teleporting is not new to movies. But this movie confused me. I thought it was the latter, but then at one point, Carter's sent back to Earth, and he awakens in the cave he was in years later.
He's was now bearded, and the guy he killed was only bones. Did he dream the whole thing??? But then he faced down the alien on Earth. So it was real. But if his body was still on Earth when he first went to Mars, was his body on Mars a doppelganger?? DAMMIT!!! All this confusion, plus my standard Kitsch dislikes, added to a overall dislike of this movie.
