I liked it. I have long wanted to see Burroughs Martian series made into movies. The film was pretty faithful to the book. Kudos to the director for that, and to the great cgi crew. Make the rest of the series, Disney.
The critics who did not like this movie must have really hated Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.
