Review of John Carter (2012) by Mikhail B — 11 Jun 2014
Even though the title of the film sounds a bit like an American president's biography or an account of the life of a 19th century serial killer, in fact this is science fiction about an ordinary man who is brought by an extraterrestrial technology to the planet of Mars where, thanks to lower gravity force he acquires a talent of jumping long distances and engages in a local war trying to help a pretty princess.
The Martian world is full of Bedouin villages, primitive-looking flying ships, and six-limbed creatures - human-like, buffalo-like, tiger-like, all of them suffer from the artist's bad taste; except for a local hound Woola, who appears to be the most appealing character in this film.
Brainless, watery and empty.
