Review of John Carter (2012) by Joshua B — 10 Nov 2013
During my first attempt at watching this film, I fell asleep within 20 minutes of it. I must have been tired because I gave it a second chance and really enjoyed the film. It wasn't the greatest script in the world but it really took me back to the classic Disney adventure films like Treasure Island and 20, 000 Leagues Under the Sea.
It was great to see a classic piece of literature brought to the screen. Why did it flop in the box office? I think because its out of its time. The audience today are not interested in these kind of movies anymore.
I honestly feel they simply spent too much money on making the film, too. Or didn't spend the money on where it counts. I'd go with great script and mediocre CGI any day. Summary: It's entertaining and not as bad as the critics say.
Trust me on that. Everyone I know considers me overly-critical when it comes to movies so take my word for it: check it out.
