This is probably my favorite underrated movie of them all. A quirky, sweet fantasy, full of foreshadowing and tremendous performances. Lloyd Bridge, Amanda Plummer, Dan Hedaya, Ossie Davis, Abe Vigoda and others support Meg Ryan and especially Tom Hanks in this wry, satiric journey to Waponi Woo and beyond.
When you see a list of Tom Hanks' greatest performances, Joe Versus the Volcano is never mentioned, but it shaped who he became. A fun film, and a real classic.
