Review of Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) by Lee B — 23 Mar 2010

This movie was on the TV Guide channel. The TV GUIDE CHANNEL. I ended up watching this just to see what the hell a movie on that channel would do. And the bottom of the screen was entirely the listing grid for the other channels. It was like watching a sporting even and the ticker never went away.

That said, This movie came out when I was either in the 8th or 9th grade and it was one of my first official date movies. Just me and a girl, busing through the city far from where people would probably recognize us (which was also before megaplexes so we had to go a bit farther), making out whenever eye contact or more than hands touched. So this movie is a soft spot for me. I didn?t even really know what was happening in the movie when I first saw it. I saw it again much later. And when I saw it again, it was a quirky little movie that I couldn?t see why a studio would finance. Nothing is truly hilarious about it, it just is a light-hearted type comedy. It doesn?t work on too many level but keeps you interested. I wonder who picked this movie to see, me or my date.
