Review of Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) by Ian M — 11 Jun 2010
Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan did a lot of movies together, and it's commonly understood that this was meant to be the flop of them. However, I find it to be the most refreshing for how simply obnoxious it is.
The story finds us following Joe as he journeys to an island to be a human sacrifice, along the way he meets a lovely girl, and they fall madly in love whilst floating on supernatural luggage... typical love story right?
Regardless of opinions this is one of the funniest romantic comedies I've seen, and is still enjoyable to this day. From the hilarious way they incorporate the same pick up lines with all of Meg Ryan's characters, to the unflappable luggage, to the Islanders endless love of Orange Soda, this movie is so unbelievable that its cunning and enjoyable.
If you're fighting with a girl about what movie to watch, take this as a compromise and you won't regret it.
