Review of Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten (2007) by Bob L — 10 Nov 2008
Julien Temple usually drifts from genius to drifter up his own arse, but in this case he makes the story speak for itself. Great use of all available archive and anecdotal snippets (although didn't see the relevance of Bono and Johnny Depp).
Strummer comes over as a man out of his time, trying to enlighten young minds to a bigger global picture (musically and morally), but then handicapped by the trappings of the music biz. Occ. pretentious, but the subject matter carries you across that.
