Review of Joe Dirt (2001) by Master Xi-Ying W — 01 Feb 2013
Ok, so now I can see where "they" (as in the uncreative, plagiarizing boobs in Hollywood) got the idea for the irritating s*itcom, "My Name is Earl.".
Too bad I didn't catch this goofy trek across America first. Also, this was WAY more fun than "Forrest Gump" without all the garish, maudlin, trying-too-hard-to-tug-at-your-heartstrings kitsch.
Normally, I would not have chosen to watch this flick but what can I say? It was free on "Crackle TV" and I had nothing better to do. As soon as I actually started paying attention, just as Dennis Miller's radio audience did in the movie, I actually started enjoying it. In some ways, this movie reminded of a farcical version of "The Truman Show," with a heck of a lot more farce. If you can watch it FREE, by all means, do so.
One last thing: Pierre is in SOUTH Dakota, not North!
