Yeah, it seems like an awful idea but it really does work. All the adventures Joe gets into while searching for his parents is really funny. Miller is great as the DJ, and Spade has never been better. He drops his usual quick wit for once. Even Kid Rock is fine, but he's playing trailer trash, I mean himself! ;).
The soundtrack is great and the supporting cast is great. I loved the bit mocking Silence Of The Lambs.
