Review of Joe (2014) by Jesse B — 26 Aug 2014
The love I have for this movie mostly stems from Cage's screen presence. Unlike most people who can't think for themselves and follow what the popular opinion is, I actually really like Nicolas Cage, and I always have.
To me he is a good actor just like any other A-List superstar, I've never looked at him any differently. With that out of the way I'd like to say that this is a great film. Just like Mud it rides on the fact that its generally disliked star puts on a great performance.
And in the same vein as Mud, Hick and Out of the Furnace it also happens to be a country themed coming of age movie. I'M A SUCKER FOR THESE FILMS. The plot is good and the characters are great, makes for a grittier adaptation of Gran Torino.
