Review of Jodhaa Akbar (2008) by Mahesh P — 29 Aug 2008
There was big hype about this movie for a long time. After a very long wait, I can confidently say that this movie was worth all the hype, and was better than I ever expected it to be. Usually, historical movies are very boring, as some people said about this one.
But, every scene has a story of its own, and not a single minute of this movie is not captivating. Hrithik Roshan continues to be one of the best actors to ever set foot in Bollywood. He portrays any character perfectly.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan acted about the same as normal...she continues to have almost no acting skills whatsoever, but she was the only one I could picture in the role of Jodhaa. This is probably the best direction I have ever seen.
Very colourful, and very well shot. Very mediocre soundtrack from A.R. Rahman though...the song Azeem-O Shaan Shahenshah is incredible, and really is worth listening too but the rest of the soundtrack is dull and painful to listen too.
Jasn-E-Bahara is pretty good too, but way too slow, and not much melody. In Lamhon Ki Daman Mein is sung by Sonu Nigam, so that is self explanitory...a dull and boring song. The worst songs are Kwaja Mere Kwaja and Maan Mohaanaa.
No rythem or melody whatsoever, and nothing worth listening for. Mann Mohanaa is terribly sung and has nothing in it at all. The songs the movie, although not worth listening to, are a perfect fit for the movie, and thus, I must commend A.
R. Rahman for producing this, even though the songs are less than average. This is a must see movie for everyone, weather a bollywood or a hollywood fan. It is definitly and epic, and is way better than Lagaan and Swades.
One of Hrithik's best performances, if not the best. Amazing battle scenes and amazing acting by Hrithik sum up this movie...epic.
