Review of Jingle All the Way (1996) by Ryan T — 02 Nov 2009
I don't see why peeople don't like this film, Jingle all the way is a good film that is alot of fun and is funny.
The Plot of the fim is that Howard Langston (Arnold Swartzenagger) has to make it up to his son for missing his karate class by getting the hottest christmas toy, a Turboman doll. The Plot of the film is something that some people, mainly parents, can relate to when it comes to getting christmas presents kate, especially if the present they are after is a must have to kids.
I can watch this movie for hours and hours, I found this movie entertaining and funny. People on the internet have blasted this film for Arnold being too annoying and for it not featuring Ted (Phil Hartman) more, even thought I like Phil Hartman in this film, I felt that if he was featured more, it might make the audience think that the film is now about him trying to steal Howard's wife away from him than about Howard attempting to get the Turboman doll. I didn't like the kid who played Jamie, Howard's son, as I found him too annoying and not a great pick for the role, there are millions of kids and they pick him, he's not onvincing enough.
The cast of Jingle all the way consists of mainly adults and a few children, not good if the film aims at children but the film is actually a family film. Arnold isn't bad in this film and neither is Phil Hartman, but the best member of the cast is the comedian Sinbad, who plays Postal Worker Myron, who is also trying to get a Turboman Doll for his son. He's a funny guy and left me laughing all thee way through the film.
One of the most enjoyable bits of the film was watching Howard and Myron always going against each other in their search to find a Turboman and one of my favourite moments was the radio station scenes when he claims to have a bomb to the police and he escpaes, the police look at it, one cop, who makes appearances throughout the film a s a cop who is always at the recieving end of something that Howard does, claims to have been in a bomb squad and dismisses that it's a bomb. However, he is wrong and it was actually a bomb and one of my fav Myron quotes after finding out it was a bomb was "It was a bomb? THIS IS A SICK WORLD WE LIVE IN".
The ending was, in my opinion, a fitting one, with Howard as Turboman in a parade and Myron as the Dementor, Turboman's eneny because they are what they have been throughout the film, Howard as the hero and Myron as the villian. But what makes the ending so bad is that when jaime is saved by his father from myron, jaime finally gets a doll but gives it to myron as he has "the real one at home", that make me quite mad because his father has wasted his time to find this doll and when he finally gets one, he gives it away, does this kid care what his father went through to get the doll/ obviously not.
The film won't win any Oscars. but this film does have many memorable quotes, like Howard telling Ted "Who told you you could eat my cookies?" and "Put that cookie down, NOW!", but one of my favs is the Fighting scene between Arnold and all those santas in the warehouse, especially a cameo from WWE wrestler The Big Show as the giant santa and says "I'm Gonna deck your halls, bub", Best christmas quote ever.
I m telling you all that when you see this movie on at christmas time, wath it, it's worth watching to hear Arnold shout about cookies.
