Review of Jindabyne (2006) by Elaine M — 15 Sep 2008
You just have to give credit to movies like this for being so ludicrously original. Rather than being yet another predictable crime drama about a dead body and the investigation that is undergone in order to hunt down the killer, 'Jindabyne' takes the premise in a brand new direction, concentrating on the people who find the body- four men on a fishing trip who upon discovering the corpse, decide to continue fishing and report the body two days later on their return.
The focus of this movie is on how the people of the town react to the actions of these four men, and particularly on how their families are affected. Laura Linney steals this film with a flawless performance as the wife of one of the men, but unfortunately the rest of the cast really doesn't match up.
Although the story is interesting, the development is slow and lacks the intricacies required for a masterpiece of its genre. Completely watchable, but nothing I'd ever spend money on buying/seeing again.
