Don't see this film alone. First, because the main plot is so disturbing. Secondly, because you'll need somebody to talk to afterwards. Pay attention to the subplots. There's lots going on that is trying to hide behind the "slow pace". This is not a film that spoon feeds the audience.
The pacing reminds me of "Walkabout". Things are happening, but you have to pay attention.
