Review of Jim Hanvey, Detective (1937) by Matt M — 28 Apr 2013
An eccentric detective is to track down a jewel thief for an insurance salesman; in doing so, he must also save the future of a young and loving couple. A cute mystery matinee feature. So many of them were produced at the time, but most are not as genuinely entertaining, funny and overall rewarding as this one.
Guy Kibbee in the titular role is hilarious, aided by a screenplay that balances humour and mystery well.
