Review of Jigsaw (2017) by Niall W — 01 Mar 2018

A film clearly made for fans of the franchise. I couldn't imagine the look on the face of someone who went to see this film having maybe only seen 1/3 of the originals.

Clearly on a bigger budget than some of the previous Saw films, it uses it's money well and has a much lighter look to it, no dank dark colours dominating every scene.

Story is well written in terms of using typical Saw tropes and relying on a bunch of twists and turns that have been seen over the last 7 films and placing them all into one, and it works for me. The only downside to the story is the character of Anna, whose arc was predictable and I don't really know how they could have swerved people on her backstory, maybe its best that her past was predictable, although her blind conviction and heel turn towards the end of the film was a nice albeit costly twist.

I wouldn't say no to another, the door is clearly open for another film, this series will always be a guilty pleasure.
