Definitely a let down right off the bat. Bit of a shame because like I said earlier, I wasn't expecting anything great or amazing just by seeing where the series has gone in general. That's saying something when I actually enjoy a few of them own them all.

I feel during a certain point, they knew exactly what kind of films they were and at least tried to deliver on those who liked the story continuation "twists" and of course, the gore. That alone is a bit unfortunate knowing that most like to label the entire series as "torture porn".

Not a big fan of the phrase "torture porn", because to me it gives it somewhat of a bad kind of insinuation with a type of tone or movie a person enjoys. That can be done with any kind of movie.

Like me calling John Wick "action porn" or Alien "suspense porn". Reason I bring it up is because the first movie and arguably some of the others, can definitely have some substance and value that people can find enjoyable besides the fact of just watching for the gore.

I was hoping that the film makers/writers would know this as well. Was really anxious to see what kind of story arc or direction they would take to give a valid reason to warrant bringing the series back after some 7 years.

The result...? Nothing really. In my opinion, they wrote themselves into a corner and really reached as far as they possibly could hoping that in the end it would tie in nicely. I am all for suspending disbelief, especially for these films, but there was a point during the film I noticed I started to roll my eyes and sigh more and more the deeper it kept reaching.

I'm not one to do that. So many conveniences and plot holes really start letting you know to not take this one so seriously, while at the same time, asking you to actually take it very seriously. Without any spoilers, with the story alone not seeming worthy of any reason to keep this going, add that along with the traps/games.

Nothing memorable here, at all. They try to give a reason for this (which makes no sense), but either way I can't say they are bad, but I cant say I can really distinguish these as anything special from the others or anything I will remember after a day or two.

Acting from everyone is fine, never really anything they can do with what they are given of course. I was excited to hear that this would be the first saw to be shot in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio thinking it would give it a more cinamatic look and feel, but it really only made it seem a bit nicer surface level as when some time passes you realize the cinamatography really just starts to mesh in with the others and doesn't feel any different.

I wouldn't really say you should rush to see it unless you are a saw completions fan. If anything else, I would even say you can skip or wait for video. Not really worth admission price... 3/10.
