Review of Jezebel (1938) by Lyn S — 29 Aug 2007
Henry Fonda, Bette Davis, William Wyler, all in their prime. So why isn't it better? Maybe because Davis is so unsympathetic, her repentence at the end doesn't feel earned. Plus, I'm not sure she has repented - she's still stealing Fonda away from his wife, even if they're both going to their probable death. She doesn't even want Fonda; she just wants to win, and she does, even convincing herself that she's being noble.
Can anyone tell me what about Fay Bainter's performance is Oscar-worthy?
