Review of Jezebel (1938) by Kevin J — 19 Apr 2008
Capriciousness was never more charming.
We need more movies where a woman baits men into dueling. One scene in fever-ridden New Orleans, where men fear death too much to help a dying man, is also burned into my memory.
I thought the movie depicted well how a slaveholding society can corrupt the slaveholder. There's a great opportunity for a new film on this theme.
The ending was too quick for my tastes, and not prepared well, but a very touching redemption.
