Review of Jesus' Son (2000) by Francisco L — 07 Mar 2009
This is one of those movies that keeps on giving. Every time I see it I find something new. I saw it in 2000 and every time its on I have to watch it. A word of caution, though, its not for everybody, its an acquired taste movie, yeah one of those.
When you see it you're either completely repulsed by what's going on or incredibly humbled by the main character's journey to redemption. Billy Crudup, Jack Black and Denis Leary are amazing in this movie, their characters are driven by simple needs and look simple in themselves, but as the story progresses you'll find a whole heap of complexity, particularly in Crudup's character.
To actually like and understand it, view it with a certain degree of moral flexibility and you'll at least laugh during the funny parts. Think of Trainspotting without all the cool rave shit and a hit of solid reality and you're there.
