Review of Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) by Jon M — 24 Apr 2011
â(TM)« What's the buzz, tell me what's-a happenin' â(TM)«.
The bible gets it's face melted off when the story of the last days of Jesus are turned into a rock opera. Told mostly in the point of view of Judas, Jesus struggles emotionally with his father's plan for him as his followers and enemies watch every move and question every motive.
A trippy and outdated musical from the 70s, this one is just... odd. And that's saying a lot coming from me. There were some songs that were pretty good (my personal favorite is "Everything's Alright") and the music was excellent but the dialouge (lyrics) and visuals were just really off for the time and very bizzare. But hey, that's the 70s for ya.
This movie was a clearly the end of the hippy era. Entertaining... but still, bizzare and extremly awkward at many points.
