Review of Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter (1966) by Jesse L — 10 Mar 2004
(DVD) (First Viewing, 1st Beaudine film).
Bought a DVD from Wal-Mart the other day for five bucks that contains four cult flicks (one is Francis Ford Coppola's directoral debut). This was the first one I watched, and it wasn't any more or any less than I expected. As far as bad films go, this has everything- laughable acting (by actors with names like "Estrelita" and "Narda Onyx"), flimsy sets, an awkward plot, embarrassing romantic scenes, experiments gone wrong, obviously fake gunfights, homosexual undertones, etc., etc. And yet, it's lots of fun, and it's most hilarious when it's not meant to be. But then, that's what makes cheap flicks like this so much fun.
It's wretched filmmaking, but sometimes cheap kicks work just fine.
