Review of Jersey Girl (2004) by Paul R — 11 Nov 2009
Even if Ben Affleck gives a surprisngly poignant performance, "Jersey Girl" lacks in so many other areas that it never really becomes a minorly good film. The story is a tad messy, the chemistry betweem Affleck and Liv Tyler is practically transparent, and some of the supporting characters (here's looking at you Jason Biggs) are annoying and inessential.
Doesn't help that a very unrealistic scene (in which Will Smith makes a cameo appearance) ruins a could-have-been cute ending. For a better father-daughter dramedy - I recommend both 1973's "Paper Moon" and 2006's "Little Miss Sunshine" instead.
