Review of Jersey Girl (2004) by Ryan V — 09 May 2012
Ben Affleck plays Ollie Trinkle, a publicist who becomes a widower when his wife dies in childbirth. Ollie then has to cope with the stress of raising a little girl (Raquel Castro) while maintaining his career trajectory.
Jersey Girl is easily the most sappy and trite effort from writer/director Kevin Smith. At the same time, my fondness for Smith's dialogue and the earnest acting by the cast makes me like this film more than I probably should.
One of the best turns, aside from the fun Sweeney Todd sequence, is George Carlin's performance as Ollie's father.
