Review of Jersey Girl (2004) by Allan C — 24 May 2013
Kevin Smith expands his range as a filmmaker, venturing into tearjerker, romcom territory with "Jersey Girl." Ben Affleck is a widowed father who gave up his high powered New York job to raise his little girl with his colorful father played by the great George Carlin.
Enter video store clerk Liv Tyler to inject some new hope and optimism in Affleck's life with your standard ups and downs. It's a reasonable charming film, mostly thanks to the cast, with enough of Smith's voice to still please his fan.
However, it's a fairly standard romcom that doesn't really veer too far from formula. Still, you could do a lot worse and it's certainly worth watching for fans of this genre or for fans of Smith.
