Review of Jerry Maguire (1996) by Jay L — 27 May 2011
"You had me at hello.".
A great romantic comedy, but an even better sports drama. Director Cameron Crowe helmed this classy and unrelentingly stylish and heartwarming film about love, heart and most of all...the brutal world of sports agency. Now I'm not a big fan of romantic comedies, but "Jerry Maguire" sparked my interest and I must admit, I thoroughly and immensely enjoyed it. It's a tasteful journey through the depths of love. An utterly memorable, intensely stirring, emotionally compelling and remarkably engaging powerhouse that's packed with laughs and incredible wit, charm and humor. Cameron Crowe and company did a wonderful job throughout of constructing this comedy/drama classic. It's achingly suspenseful and loaded with crisply tuned tension. An enjoyment from start to finish.
Powerful and commanding performances dominate this film from start to finish. Tom Cruise does an excellent job in one of the better performances of his career. It's Cuba Gooding Jr's commanding performance that stole the show, he truly let his talent run wild in his portrayal of a cocky showboating football star. Renee Zellwegger is great throughout. Kelly Preston and Jerry O'Connell do well in their appearances throughout.
