Review of Jerry Maguire (1996) by Sidney S — 14 Mar 2012
An enticing drama that has all the features of a great film: a great story, great acting and dialogue and ultimately its cast and ending. Jerry Maguire is unlike any other sports movie. Rather than being a film about the player this is the film about the agent the one behind the scenes managing it all.
It shows how competition with another (agent) and making the wrong decision can truly send you spiraling downhill in the business world. But Jerry Maguire brings forth something different, it shows how the appearance of a conscience, dignity and the means to be close with his clients truly effected this man's life but ultimately lead him to find his true love.
The film's cast gave us great performances from Cuba Gooding Jr. who won an Oscar for this film and Renee Zellweger in her emotionally attached performance but the bulk of the entire film goes to none other than Tom Cruise.
Jerry Maguire is no doubt the BEST performance of Cruise's entire career. He showed the drive, the initiation and ultimately the emotion of his character. He is truly dynamic and a livewire in this film.
Highlights of his great acting include the famous "show me the money scene!",his breakup with Dorothy, Rod's big win and ultimately reuniting with his wife. An excellent film it is beyond me how this film didn't win Best Picture and even more absurd that Cruise did not win the Oscar for acting in this film (or why he hasn't won at all yet for some stupid reason).
Truly excellent film making by director Cameron Crowe, the cast and ultimately Tom Cruise.
