Review of Jerry Maguire (1996) by Jon P — 07 Jul 2014
If you're a hopeless romantic in any way, shape or form, chances are Cameron Crowe's delightful romcom will have you at hello. With voiceovers, montages and frivolous forward-drive, the film first feels like a snap-neck paced Scorsese with entertainment levels cranked to the max, slowly settling down into a touching, turbulent story of growth, love and self-realisation.
Trouble is, there's a noticeable lull somewhere in that transition and, tender performances and superb sound editing aside, Jerry Maguire really isn't quite so 'WOW' as Crowe wants us to think it is.
Solid, unremarkable fun.
