Review of Jeepers Creepers (1939) by Rudy G — 26 Feb 2012
Started out strong, I was genuinely creeped out (Eileen Brennan was by far my favorite). Anyway, I thought this whole things was terrifying up until you find out that it is some sort of creature. I much preferred the idea that it was just a sadistic old man building an underground church of bodies.
An old man who would eat the tongue out of a decapitated man's head. But the monster effects where cheesy and just ruined the entire movie for me. I liked the ending, but again, I wish they just kept it simple and left the villain as a deranged old man demon.
Yep the first 50 minutes or so are terrifying. This is one of those stories where the less me know, the scarier it is. I don't think people would have been disappointed if they never really find out anything about the man.
They could have kept everything else in the movie (the ending, the police station, etc.) except for the creature aspect and it would have been much better. Never really understanding the old man, but just knowing that he is deranged and must be some sort of demon, but again, the less me know and just assume, the better and more terrifying.
