Review of Jean de Florette (1986) by Jens T — 16 Sep 2010
80's movies re-visited 1 out of 5: Just watched this 2 part movie that used to be a long time favorite of mine. It tells the story of a greedy farmer and his uncle who blocks the water source on a prime piece of farm land from its owner, a city hunchback and his family, so that they can claim the land for themselves.
The second part tells the story of the hunchback's daughter Manon who seeks revenge for the crime done against her father. It's part pastoral, part tragedy and epic storytelling. Yves Montand, Daniel Auteil and Emanuelle Beart stars.
Yes, you get tired of goats in the end. But if you can stand the goat herding, pastoral romance and tragedy until the very end it has a big surprise for you that all makes sense.
