Review of JCVD (2008) by Dan L — 18 Aug 2009
Certainly Van Damme's best performance, although neither a great film in itself nor actually his best film (still Universal Soldier, I'm afraid). But an interesting piece of meta-fiction, referencing JCVD's real-life drug and relationship problems in a to-camera, single take piece of genuine acting.
Also pokes fun at the general crapness of the majority of his films, while getting in several sly digs against rival Steven Seagal along the way. It's nice to see Van Damme in something which doesn't suck balls for once.
Here's hoping he will finally get to do some serious roles, rather than more straight-to-DVD heaps of shit.
