Review of JCVD (2008) by Michael A — 23 Sep 2009
Jean-Claude earnestly trying to explain to everyone he is just a normal guy; which he does a fine job with. The movie teasingly begins with some ridiculous movie fight scene, and then turns into a tense stand-off for the remainder.
Van Damme is faced with confusion and defeat in a real-life hostage situation. Flashbacks show his normal depressing life and what fame makes people do to him. The soliloquy is sad, in a couple of ways though.
This is a stand-out for the actor, and the man, as a heart-felt plea of a boxed in stereotype trying to be shown as an individual, not as an action-movie tool. Not what I was expecting, but I liked it.
