Review of JCVD (2008) by Marcel D — 05 Dec 2009
A surprisingly great piece of novel cinema. The best starting point for viewers is to know who Jean Claude Van Damme is, then from there, you can enjoy an original film where the actor plays a version of himself caught in the middle of post-office robbery.
Its fun, its light but not without depth and Van Damme's acting is pretty startling stuff. There is quite a profound moment for his character that is central to the unique screenplay. It comes with a pretty powerful message that might be worth paying attention to... if you're into that sort of thing.
Check it out if you know a little about the man. Its kind of integral just so you can understand what all the fuss is about. It won't change your world but if you're looking for something different, check it out. The direction is fantastic, better production values than anything Van Damme has been in before.
... personal and unique, but without being pretentious or overbearing. Good fun.
