Review of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) by Dutch V — 15 Jul 2009
This film has a lot of problems, but at the same time offers the audience and the fans such a feeling of happiness and satisfaction that I think it is definitely worth it.
First the problem that a lot of people have with this film is that is very raunchy in its language. Some would say that it is gratuitous, but I beg to differ. We have all seen Jay's antics in Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma and if there were to be entire movie about that character you better be expecting a lot of foul language. Also the previous listed films haven't exactly been clean in the way of language. The other problem with this film is that it isn't as intelligent as his previous films but considering that it is Jay and Silent Bob we are talking about that makes sense although it disappointed me quite a bit. Finally the problem with it is that you do really need to see Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma. Smith references them constantly during the movie and characters from those movies appear quite a bit in this film and a lot of their antics and lines come from the previous listed movies. Someone who hadn't seen any of those or maybe only seen one would probably at times be confused, but still be entertained.
With that said to someone like myself who have seen all of them would find this movie absolutely hilarious. Seeing all of those characters in one movie however stupid and cartoon like the plot is, is a really satisfying movie experience. This movie will make you laugh and I would really only recommend it, if you plan on or already have watched Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma.
