Review of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) by Jacob B — 31 Aug 2017
Currently my favourite film in the View Askewniverse which I have decided to watch in a random order because they don't have credit scenes that form part of a bigger story like another shared universe that we have nowadays involving superheroes and an old man who cameos who previously appeared in one of director Kevin Smith's previous films.
The duo who like to have conversations with characters from previous entries in the View Askewniverse now have their very own movie. And I laughed my ass off throughout with its gleefully profane humour and how it just decides not to take itself too seriously.
I was immediately sold with Jay's opening rap at the beginning of the movie which is surprisingly kind of catchy. And appearances from characters from previous Kevin Smith films will make people who loved Clerks, Chasing Amy, Mallrats and Dogma wet themselves with excitement.
..when taking their maturity into account. Oh, the humorous dialogue and appearances from many famous people including: Ben Affleck in a dual role, Mark Hamill, Matt Damon, the late Wes Craven and Jason Biggs from American Pie along with whoever the other guy is.
Will Ferrell also steals the show because of how he's so distracted by two "potential terrorists" because of a dirty-sounding acronym that the police forget about the 3 chicks and Shannon Elizabeth who stole diamonds.
Had this truly been the final film in the View Askewniverse, or at least the final film to feature the titular duo, it would've been a satisfying send-off. Never has a film that, in a way, parodies itself left me in stitches.
