Review of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) by David G — 09 Jun 2011

"This isn't fair. We came to Hollywood, I fell in love, we got shot at, we stole a monkey, and I got punched in the motherfucking nuts by a guy named Cocknocker!".

Well, thank you Jay for so eloquently summing up the plot of this unashamedly daft Kevin Smith comedy. Those unfamiliar with Smith and his work will struggle to see much beyond the lowbrow pratfalls and fart gags but fans of the View Askewniverse will appreciate the satire (Hollywood and *cough* internet armchair critics get a pasting), geek humour (as always, comic book and Star Wars nods are aplenty) and mountain of in-jokes and cameos. JASBSB is far from Smith's best work but you get the feeling that it was an excuse for him to let off some steam following the Dogma controversy. The film is so over the top, with logic and taste being thrown around with such reckless abandon that criticising it feels redundant. I wonder if that was the point?
