Review of Jaws (1975) by Luke N — 22 Aug 2013
Steven Spielberg at his absolute best. There is nothing I would change about this film - it literally excels in every single aspect. Deemed by most critics as the film that invented the now-dreaded term 'summer blockbuster', this movie was phenomenally successful on its 1975 release, and has since gone down as one of the greatest films ever made.
Unlike most blockbusters these days, however, this film was not just an efficient money-maker to draw in audiences, but was one of the most beloved tales about man and his disadvantaged battle against nature in its most primal and deadly form.
An indisputable classic that has rightfully been remembered, and suffers little from its old-fashioned effects and the fact that the shark is just a large piece of rubber. The director's handling of 'Jaws' is equal to that of the most convincing illusionist, making you believe in the unbelievable, even at its most revealing moments.
