Review of Jaws (1975) by Chase H — 06 Dec 2015
Jaws is a bone chilling story that is emotional and terrifying. The suspenseful music sparks immediate fear without even seeing or hearing the horrific monster from below. The story takes place in the beautiful, peaceful town of Amity, where the summer days at the beach are near close to heaven until it is suddenly taken over by the brutality of a blood thirsty great white shark. The movie Jaws is at the top of the suspense list in film making history, It's amazing and addicting storyline keeps you guessing, keeps you watching, and most importantly, keeps you thinking about the fear that lurks below long after the credits are over. Jaws was clearly created for the suspense-thriller genre and exceeds all expectations!
Jaws was the first of it's kind and for many people, the slow and continuously faster beat of the opening song makes people cringe every time they think about entering the water. The story of Jaws is enough to put you on the edge of your seat, but when added with stylistic and perfectly timed music, it makes you want to close your eyes but still peek through your fingertips. The soundtrack of the movie is brilliant, timeless and recognizable even today-years after the film's release. It is very stirring to the older generation but will certainly have an everlasting affect on the new and upcoming generations. One that when played, everyone knows its origin and meaning, even if they haven't seen the film. The first scene of the movie sets the tone with the bone chilling music and that keeps you watching unable to move throughout the entire 2-hour long thriller. The music is undoubtedly a huge part of this movie's success and staying power.
Jaws is a classic! One of the best of all time. Most people would say that when they think of the genre suspense, one movie always comes to mind, Jaws. This movie is a must see! It's a movie that touched millions throughout the 1970's and is continuing to do the same a half a century later. As I sat and watched this classic film, I thought to myself that in today's movie industry everything is action packed with much detail and high tec cameras and graphics. This is what moves us today but watching Jaws made me realize how a suspense movie should be made. Jaws is a movie that was made without todays technology but it far outmatches anything that has been made of late. Jaws is one for the ages and will always be one of the greatest suspense-thrillers ever made. Jaws will make you rethink swimming in the shallowly blues of our beloved but unpredictable oceans.
