Review of Jason Lives - Friday the 13th Part VI (1986) by Brandon S — 20 Feb 2009
Here's the deal: Corey Feldman did a real number on Jason's head at the end of Part 4 and we were left wondering: could even Jason survive such a butchering? In the crappy part 5 the murderer was a lame-o copycat killer; but in Part 6 it turns out that, like the title says, JASON LIVES! Even so, the fact is Feldman did kill Jason at the end of Part 4, it's just that thanks to a timely lightening bolt his maggot-ridden corpse is re-animated as a kind of super-zombie! (Tch-tch-tch-tch, hwa-hwa-hwa-hwa!) This is a very fun and fast-paced slasher movie, dispensing with inessentials like story and character development to provide the bloodthirsty viewer with frequent and often cool kills.
What's more, at times there's the beginning of what might be called style, a delightfully twisted sense of humor, and a self-awareness appropriate to the 6th entry in a completely formulaic series.
There is, oddly, no nudity (in the lone sex scene the chick rides the dude with her shirt on) yet you hardly notice the deficiency amongst all the enjoyable (but never mean-spirited) violence. This entry in the Friday the 13th series is a keeper, a fine example of entirely by-the-numbers slasher trash.
