Review of Jason Lives - Friday the 13th Part VI (1986) by Wild Willie N — 12 Mar 2010
After the boob job of Friday 5 (although i've come to like it in its own way), as a 13yr old - I was excited for the return of the real jason for part 6. I remember owning and reading the novel to this back then.
Back then it was a pretty good return to form but "Jason Lives" has had its ups and downs through the past 20+ yrs. There are alot of things that kept F6 from really being a good 13th flick.
Lets name a few.....the inclusion of comedy that has NO PLACE, outside of the first kill: weak and stupid deaths (watered down and cut, etc) over reliance of the machete, stupid dialogue and some dumb characters (i love the drunk caretaker thou!), alteration of the classic Harry Manfredini soundtrack - it almost sounds "happy".
..Jason walking around with commando gear, NO NUDITY, etc etc. I could go on but i'm too lazy. BUT regardless of all that - Jason Lives is still certainly watchable. In the vast canon of the Friday series, part 6 is better than probably half of the films for sure.
..and i'd take this over recent SHIT like the Halloween 2 remake anyday. Ok i've ranted long enough. Summary? Friday 6 is not in the class as the first 4 but its alright...it just needs some help.
Being uncut might bring it more inline.
