Review of Jason Lives - Friday the 13th Part VI (1986) by Corey B — 21 May 2011
Ok, standalone this isn't bad, but I am rather disappointed considering how the last one ended. As much fun as this is, you're forced to ignore the fact that the main protagonist is just as bad as Jason! It's not like the previous movies worried about pulling a plot line from mid air, like the main girl from the 3rd movie mysteriously surviving a Jason attack as a child just to come back to face him again.
If they had just named him something other than Tommy Jarvis that would have been cool. Aside from that, this is Jason's debut as a supernatural villain, so everything is now over the top. You'd think this would be a good thing, but it mostly just feels a little watered down.
Of course I don't think this movie is completely at fault, there isn't much legend to build on for a good story, the main characters it can really come down to is Jason and the lake! At least they tried to add some humor and stop taking themselves so seriously, it just took 6 friggin' installments, Evil Dead had that down in two.
