Review of Jason Lives - Friday the 13th Part VI (1986) by Steve D — 12 Jun 2014

After the unwatchable A New Beginning, it seemed the Friday the 13th franchise was heading downhill incredibly fast. Enter writer/director Tom McLoughlin, who knew for the sequels to continue, and improve, Jason had to be resurrected and we really couldn't take all this 100% seriously anymore.

Jason Lives is constantly winking at the audience with in-jokes and genre nods that fans of the series will definitely appreciate. You can tell everyone on both sides of the camera are more interested in taking the audience on a fun ride rather then setting up cheap jump scares.

Cause let's face it, these movies were never exactly terrifying to begin with. The action is finally back at Camp Crystal Lake and with Jason now an indestructible zombie he can do some insanely over-the-top stuff.

Great, atmospheric direction, a tight script, jokes that work, likeable characters...Jason Lives stands at the top of the series for so many reasons. It's a shame no Friday the 13th movie would ever be this good again.
