Review of Jason Bourne (2016) by Devo-Nc — 28 Jul 2016
Misses the mark of what made the original trilogy a classic. Bourne Lecagy slightly dampened the trilogies legacy, pun intended. What goes wrong here isn't minor nitpicks or redundant visual exhaustion of what Greengrass has been depicting in previous Bourne films.
These movies have unique adrenaline and entertainment unique to the journey of Bourne's discoveries. This is merely an episode in Bourne's life and not an evolved story arch. I thought 'Jason Bourne' was just the working title.
.. They turned the character into a violent weapon against nature. At the base, he is someone who is lost in his delusion, being pushed from a normal life. This was such a pay check they couldn't come up with an original title and they give it to Greengrass so they could recapture the magic of oscar-winning Ultimatum (2007).
When the studio jams money up a delicate franchise like this, as a viewer and fan it pushes me away. I remember seeing the first 3 films and being highly entertained by them. The last 2 movies have gone to show how pointless and excessive spin-offs and forced sequels pay off for the wrong reasons.
This movie feels flat and derivative of similar themes and it feels like I've seen this before and was more entertained the other time. What a waste.
