Review of Jason and the Argonauts (1963) by Stephen H — 20 Feb 2010
Quite spectacular for 1963. I may go a bit far saying the effects look dated at parts comparing to that of decades onward blockbuster quality, but looking at the efforts Harryhausen committed into his work for the picture, there's a memorable charm with them. And yes, the skeleton fight is awesome.
There are some other small parts I'll nitpick like whatever happened to the women who drop food for the blind old man before he is attacked by the Herpes who leave before they arrive never to return, but whatever. If you want a great fantasy flick made before the Lord of the Rings trilogy, then this is the closest you can get.
