Ray Harryhausen's best work is in Jason And The Argonauts, one of the best effects films ever made. Other films that Harryhausen worked on had hokey stories and average acting, but Jason, based on Greek mythology, takes 'adventure' to its roots.
The skeleton guards fight, the statue coming to life, Poseidon from the sea, and the 7-headed serpent. Magnificent stuff that I can watch at anytime.
