Review of Jason and the Argonauts (1963) by Carl H — 25 Sep 2011
Jason and the Argonauts is a fantasy classic that has inspired endless movies. It dose the Greek myth justice and leaves you wanting more. It is magnificent showcase of Ray Harryhausen's finest special effects and it is his best film.
This includes demonic harpies, a terrifying seven-headed hydra and the famous battle with the skeletons. The special effects look realistic and never get old. Jason finds and set out to find the Golden Fleece, unaware that the gods are a intervening in mortal affairs, in the ultimate game of chess.
A work of real genius and there is nothing like it. Among HarryHausen's other work like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad and Clash of Titans, these I recommend as well.
