Review of Jason and the Argonauts (1963) by Senor C — 06 Nov 2011
Ray Harryhausen's special fx are this films highlight. I love that old school stop motion animation. I wish it still survived in this CGI world. Every time his craft is put on display it's fucking magic.
A true labor of love that he would invest months of work for just a few minutes of screen time. His fighting skeletons are so classic that Sam Raimi would pay homage to them in Army of Darkness. Outside of the special fx the rest of the movie is fair to pretty good though.
If it had been a tighter & wasn't so open ended this could have been The New Hope of the 60s. Well maybe the Return of the Jedi. @ least that useless Greek mythology that I studied in high school is paying off for me when Im watching movies later on in life.
Who says that public education is useless?
