Review of Jarhead (2005) by Paul M — 25 Aug 2011
I really enjoyed this film. I hear a lot of soldiers say it's too "Hollwoodised" and not realistic, but I think they are missing the point. After two tours in Iraq myself, in the infantry no less, I totally identify with the main character, all the characters actually, and I think the film does an amazing job portraying the weird frenetic helpless paranoia you have about your loved ones at home and having nothing in the world that you can do if it were to go bad (crazy run on sentence.
..). A great actors piece, as is every Mendes film that I've seen so far. I think he did a great job with what he was try to do. It's a war film, but not a combat action film, it's about that inner battle we all fight in order to deal with the things that we must do as soldiers.
